Who Has Got Whom Here? aka Let Go of my Leggo

February 8, 2017

Ark volunteer Frank responded immediately when he got word from Valerie that there was a hawk out in front of Mayo Clinic on San Pablo Road.  The bird had been sitting in front of the fountain for hours in distress. Upon arrival and capture, Frank realized that the hawk's talons were firmly caught up in the carcass of a squirrel.  It would seem that this was a predicament that he'd been in for several days at least, as a hawk with legs entangled still would have been able to fly off when approached. It is The Ark's opinion that this poor fellow was starving due to his inability to hunt with his talons entangled.  The lack of food caused him to end up at Mayo Clinic finally too exhausted to take off again with the squirrel in tow. (in tow... in toes? hmmm pardon the pun!)  Once Frank freed the hawk, the bird was once again able to fly off ... and hunt!  Happy ending!  Many thanks to Frank for his quick response!
